Our center CR Mittal eye donation Center is first standalone eye donation center of kumaun region of Uttarakhand affiliated with Arjun Eye Bank of Government Medical College, Haldwani.

Eye donation is a highly significant humanitarian act that grants immortality to the donor.

How to Pledge for Eye Donation?

Eye donation is free of cost, and buying/selling human organs or tissues is illegal and punishable by law.

Important Information About Eye Donation:

Eye donation should be performed within 4–5 hours of death under the supervision of specialized doctors.

Only the cornea (the transparent tissue at the front of the eye) is removed during the process, and an artificial cornea is placed, so there is no disfigurement.

Corneas can be preserved for up to 2 weeks.

The process is simple, takes only 10–15 minutes, and is often conducted at home with the family's cooperation.

If the pledged individual passes away, the family (or legal heirs) should contact the nearest eye bank or eye retrieval center.

Why is Eye Donation Important?

According to the WHO report, around 2 lakh corneal transplants are required annually in India. However, due to a lack of awareness and insufficient human resources, only about 25,000 eye donations are performed each year. As a result, only approximately 50,000 individuals benefit from eye donation annually.

Considering this situation, C.R. Mittal Eye Retrieval Center (proposed by Maharaja Agrasen Global Charitable Trust) is continuously running awareness campaigns on eye donation.
